The book entitled Grandma’s House is an account of the life of Emilie Chmiel. The daughter of a Bar Keeper who left Österreich, Schlesien to follow her husband to America in 1913. The book gives a small glimpse of what is known about her life in Skotschau, Austria & her life in Reese, Michigan & Los Angeles, California. It is the story of one woman’s perseverance, experiencing many triumphs & tragedies throughout her life.

I am looking for living family members related to Emilie Chmiel born 17 October 1890 in Mistek, Schlesien, Austria. Emilie was born to Johann Chmiel and Marianna Supik. Emilie had at least 3 sisters. Teresia Chmiel was born 26 August 1893 in Teschen. Sophie Chmiel was born 22 April 1898 in Teschen. And Hermine Chmiel was born 29 January 1900 in Teschen. There may have been other children. Hermine Chmiel married and had a daughter Gretel, who married Harry Wolters. Harry & Gretel Wolters eventually lived in Hannover, Germany from the 1950’s into the 1980’s at Podbielskistrasse 256. The father Johann & mother Marianna lived in Skotschau, Schlesien, Austria in 1913 (now Skoczów Poland). Emilie Chmiel married Paul Stebel, they had the 2 children born in Skotschau (now Skoczów).
